The ASI in Punjab Highway Patrol maintains law and order on highways, ensures the safety of highways, and provides help to road users. An ASI is positioned under senior officers for highway activity supervision, accident responses, enforcement of traffic rules, and ensuring safe travel on highways. The job requires law enforcement skills, dedication toward public service, and sharp decision-making skills in facing critical situations.
Responsibility
1-Patrolling highways: to ensure safety on the high roads and detect any unusual activity.
2-Accidents/emergency response: immediate and prompt response to road accident cases, attending to injured victims, coordinating with health professionals and other emergency officers.
3-Traffic enforcement: strictly enforcing traffic laws by issue of summons, handling infringement cases, and educating traffic users on proper safe procedures.
4-Reporting and Documentation: Record incidents and keep patrol activity logs. Report criminal or unsafe activities to senior officers.
5-Public Assistance: Assist motorists when necessary, including giving directions and helping in vehicle breakdowns.
6-Coordination with Other Agencies: Cooperate with local police, medical teams, and highway authorities for efficient management of highway incidents.
7-Promote Road Safety Awareness: Conduct community outreach in promoting road safety awareness and responsible driving.
Qualification
Bachelor Degree (2nd Division)
Preferable Skills
1-Communication Skills – Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with motorists, colleagues, and supervisors.
2-Knowledge of Law Enforcement- Familiarity with road safety law, regulations, and general law enforcement procedures.
3-Ability to Solve Problems- Sound judgment in making quick, emergency decisions.
4-Physical Fitness- Physically capable of the highway patrol duties and handling of emergencies.
5-Driving Skills-Knowledgeable in driving automobiles and vehicle maintenance.
6-Pay Attention to Details – Ability to observe and report accurately incidents and maintain detailed records.
7-First Aid Training (Preferred) – Knowledge of the basic first aid to attend to accident victims when possible.
