JOB DESCRPTION
The National Disaster Management Authority, or NDMA, is the top agency mandated to provide coordination and oversight of disaster preparedness and response activities nationwide. As a mandate of the law protecting communities, infrastructure, and resources from natural and human-made disasters, NDMA has a huge responsibility in ensuring the safety and resilience of the affected areas.
Objects and Responsibilities:
NDMA is engaged in drafting and formulating disaster management policies, plans, and frameworks aimed at reducing disasters and enhancing capacities to respond. Major Responsibility Areas of NDMA:
The core functions of NDMA also involve preparing for disasters and risk reduction through strategic plans, risk assessments, and public awareness programs towards reducing the impact of disasters. It tries to take preventive measures while coordinating with regional and local authorities working in sync.
Coordinating and Leading Emergency Response: NDMA centrally coordinates emergency responses during disaster situations, mobilizes the relevant sources of resources, and ensures timely aid to the affected communities. In the organization, there is cooperation with governmental, non-governmental, and international entities in order to effectively respond to disasters.
Training and Capacity Building: NDMA conducts workshops and simulation exercises for government officials, emergency response teams, and volunteers so that they are better prepared to perform in exigencies, and the concerned communities informed and empowered.
Research and Development: The body conducts studies of trends, weaknesses, and the latest technology in disaster management. Analysis of data and outcome from past events ensures that NDMA is always inclined to develop its strategy for the future.

Responsibility
Major Functions of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
Preparation for Disaster
Formulate and implement overall policies to make the country better prepared for natural, technological, and man-made disasters. This involves formulating advance warnings and public enlightenment on disaster preparedness.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Risk assessments to identify areas of vulnerability and populations in order to mitigate disaster impacts. NDMA fosters infrastructure and community resilience against disaster risks.
Coordination of Emergency Response
Serve as the lead coordinating agency in disaster response operations, mobilizing resources, personnel, and supplies to the affected area. NDMA works in collaboration with local, national, and international organizations to respond promptly and effectively.
Resource Mobilization
Organizes and deploys resources such as food items, medicines, rescue teams, and machineries during emergencies. NDMA ensures that all the necessary services and relief resources are effectively made available to satisfy the needs of the affected communities.
Capacity Building and Training
Routinely conducts training programs, drills, and simulation for the officials of the government and the people working in emergency fields. This helps to create a workforce with skillful hands who can carry out effective action in handling a disaster situation
Public Awareness and Community Engagement
Promote disaster preparedness, safety measures, and resilience through outreach campaigns, workshops, and education programs.
Research and Innovation
Provide leadership and support research activities that would advance the techniques of disaster management; improve the prediction of hazards; and develop new technologies that lessen the risk and response in terms of emergency.
Policy Formulation and Implementation
Implement and give instructions on national policies, standards, and guidelines on disaster risk reduction and management. Ensure that the NDMA integrates disaster management into different sectors for comprehensive national safety.
International Cooperation
Involvement of international disaster management organizations and agencies in sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices. Also, participates in global forums and collaborates in joint disaster preparedness and response activities.
Recovery and Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is being overseen as post-disaster rehabilitation activity, while rebuilding communities, and restoring infrastructure, and provision of psychosocial support. Rehabilitation programs are coordinated by NDMA as means of promoting the long-term recovery and sustainable resilience.

He should have strong knowledge regarding the precepts of disaster management, which encompasses risk assessment, emergency response, and recovery operations.
Effective Communication
He should be able to effectively communicate the plans in a situation where disaster occurs to both the internal teams and the public at large, which involves apt expressions using precise terms so that the message becomes clear and concise.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
Should have sharp analytical skills wherein he is able to detect critical situations and take prompt decisions to recover from risks and other such incidents.
Leadership and Team Coordination
Leadership skills in effectively managing teams, delegating responsibilities, and co-coordinating efforts amongst agencies and organizations.
Adaptability and Flexibility
Ability to adjust promptly under changing circumstances, especially within unpredictable disaster environments.
Strategic Planning Skills
Capacity to develop a comprehensive disaster preparedness plan, policies and frameworks.
Technical Competency
Knowledge of disaster management software, mapping tools such as GIS, and data analysis in tracking and managing disaster data.
